Perquisites

Everybody knows the three greatest perks of being a school teacher: June, July, and August. Extra working days are eating into June and August but ooooooohhhhhhh July. Here is a lesser known benefit of teaching: Christmas goodies!

My score so far this year: 4 cards, a bag of cookies, two new Pez dispensers (Grievous and Chewie), and assorted candies and chocolates.

I'll keep you posted as the booty grows.

My booty always grows this time of year and I'm not even a teacher.

Why doesn't more candy come with a dispenser? Why just pez? And why aren't pez dispensers made so when you open them up it looks like you are opening up the character's mouth?

Sad day yesterday re: GL. I thought of you when I heard the news. I considered wearing a black and green armband, but had to be in court and thought that might get me off on the wrong foot with the judge.

I had a fellow middle school teacher tell me once that when the kids gave you stuff to eat for presents, that's when you knew they really liked you. They were giving you something they'd rather keep for themselves. Nice to know your students like you, isn't it? I even had one student (no joke here) draw an accurate rendition of his scientific calculator on the front of the card he gave me. I guess I should take that as a complement, as this kid's favorite subject was math.

Better eat those goodies BEFORE you come home! My waistline doesn't need anymore after the booty I received today at school--and I'm just the bookkeeper!

My tally so far: Muddy Buddies, jelly cookies (???), Santa ornament, snowman candle, 3-tiered serving dish.

"Preachers...we don't get the booty."

Oh how I love that word.

Add one card and a tupperware full of goop to the list. (You've never heard of goop? Pretzels, peanuts, popcorn in a delicious goopy glaze. Mmmmmmmm.)

I got a huge box of those Ferro Roche truffles from a first grader when I was student teaching...it was my first official teacher gift, and it made me cry. In a good way.

OK. Maybe there are some things I miss about teaching. :)

Now we nurses really haul it in during X-Mas...Drs giving us pizza or Mexican Food lunches, oodles of Sierra Nut House stuff, all kinds of fruit - fresh and dried, cookies of every variety, popcorn, and the best "nurse bait" of all...See's Candy! We can pick up the scent of See's Candy from an amazing distance....it's an acquired skill. And the surgical supply reps treat us too...our favorite is our suture reps who give us a X-Mas party at The Elbow Room every year. You know the basic nurse food groups? Caffeine, fat, chocolate, and peanut butter on saltine or graham crackers. Y'all should be nurses...just for the goodies and booty. But you gotta take "call" and work weekends.

"Getting "the booty" is something elders do to preachers.
How was that boys?

I was a bit disappointed with my "booty" this year - not as many chocolates as I had hoped and not even a calendar for 2007!
Oh well, the thing is, we do our holidays diff to yours and Christmas if our "Summer vacation" but only of a mere 5 or so weeks.

I always give our preacher presents, Randy...normally a jar of homemade jam. :) Do you want me to send you one? I'm feeling kinda sorry for you.

We won't be through Fresno until Wednesday the 27th - will you still be in town?

I get stuff from people at church every Christmas. Sometimes they even give me presents.
