Birthdays

In a couple of weeks, I'll have yet another birthday. I will be the same age as Vice-Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin. Do with that information as you will.

Eight days after that, I will celebrate my other birthday. I was baptized into Christ on Nov. 11, 1979. On that day, I became a new creation.

44 years ago today, my mother was baptized. She was great with child. So I was sorta baptized twice I guess. I don't know why, but whenever I write this date on my whiteboard, I always remember. And I always wish her a happy birthday.

Wouldn't you like to know, in your own Christian community, everybody's New Birthday? I can't think of a better reason for a party.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come" (2 Cor. 5: 17)

I remember watching it both times. Sweet sister Nig held me up to see Mom and Dad's baptism. I got to stand on the pew and remember thinking that was a very big deal at 2. Nobody had to hold me for your second baptism.

The church in Geneva has puts the spiritual birth-days up nearly every week. A great reminder.

Happy birthdays.

I love Brady's idea. I can't remember mine.
I do remember the circumstances.
Barb and I were both baptized at the same time.
My Mom and Dad were there.
We went over to our trailer to celebrate with a meal.
Where did the time go?

I need to ask my dad because he has my NEW birth certificate and he was the one that baptized me. I remember it, but not the day. I like the info with your mom. Thanks Steve!

Sandra, you are amazing to have remembered how "big a deal it was" when your parents were baptized - at TWO! Your memory is astounding! I can ony remember maybe somethings at 3, I was eight when I was baptized...don't remember it being filled with a lot of joy one sees today. It was a somber affair. I'll never forget my mother's baptism...even tho' she had been baptised in the Mennonite chuch, my father insisted she had to be baptized again...she, too, was great with 3rd child. I was 7
But W's baptism was the sweetest of all...her decision...and one that brought me back into the fold 25 years ago. "And the children shall lead us..."

We need a reminder of this change in our life.

Does it count for a good Lutheran girl to remember her Confirmation? Brought to mind especially this Sunday as it was Reformation Sunday in the liturgical year and while visiting my parents' church watched the new class of confirmands reaffirm the commitment their parents made for them at the times of their baptisms.

Wow, that has some interesting parallels to my life. Born the first time = 9/7/1963. Re-birth = 9/15/93 (8 day's after my first birthday, just like you). Tracy (my wife) was also reborn on 9/15/93, so we share that birthday! She was pregnant with Nick at the time (just like your mom with you!). Rachel Carter was also reborn on 9/15/93, AND her 'first' birthday is also September 7th, just like me! Her dad, Ed, invited Tracy and I to come to a small group bible study, which lead to us going to church, which lead to our rebirth-day! Cool huh?
