The "a" and "l" are pronounced like the name "Al"...not "all", right? Maybe the pitcher was distantly-related to that good physician. Something to research...
Funny. Have you ever seen the book about names? There is a urologist by the name of P. P. Peters, just to mention one of hundreds of names that probably should have chosen another profession.
