What is the purpose of the church?

Come on, give us a hard one or one that might get differing opinions.

Here's my take:

To help people through God's power and to His glory.

Of course, if you were paying me my hourly rate for that answer I would have to throw in some heretofores and some therinafters and maybe even a res ipsa loquitor.

The purpose of the "church", being a body of believers in Christ...the bride of Christ...is to love one another, to reveal His message of salvation and hope to all the world and the promise of eternal life with Him, and to magnify and glorify His name, to edify and to be the imitation of Christ to each other.

There are more aspects of purpose in each of the above, but that would require volumes. How many ways can we be the imitation of Christ?
